When we began to explore influences for Spring/Summer '23 we were drawn to the 1970s and the workwear donned by dutiful public servants here in the UK. Workwear has long since expanded into fashion, but the noble professions that provided employment for millions in the 70s on these isles feel under-represented. With that in mind we mainlined YouTube documentaries, marvelled at how much older than their age everyone dressed back then, and how cool the colour brown can look when worn the right way.
We watched the Beatles documentary on Disney, we listened to a lot of Prog Rock and researched the politics of the era. We then combined this heady mix with a pragmatic approach to a modern clothing interpretation and here before you stands the results.
The Plaid Worker Jacket sees the emergence of our rubber branding ideas, with that modern day application juxtaposed with the traditional plaid pattern. Corduroy was in Hikerdelic's DNA from day dot, and it appears once again here, a hint of luxury in a rich chocolatey hue.
